Japanese Teahouse-Inspired Reading Room Comes to Spitalfields

Head down to Old Spitalfields Market from Tuesday this week, and you can be transported back to 18th-century Japan.

A Japanese teahouse-inspired reading room is being built on the site to mark the publication of David Mitchell’s latest book, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, in paperback.

David Mitchell’s Reading Room is near the Mulberry Gate at Old Spitalfield’s market from 15-19 March between 9.30am and 7pm. David Mitchell will be making an appearance on 16 March at 1pm.

Movie Of The Month: Death Note (March)


"Plot Summary: The series centers on Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook, the “Death Note”, dropped on Earth by a shinigami (death god) named Ryuk. The Death Note grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose face they have seen, by writing the victim’s name in the notebook. The story follows Light’s attempt to create and rule a world cleansed of evil using the notebook, and the complex conflict between him, his opponents and a mysterious detective known to the world only as L."

Y-3: The Opening of the London Conduit Street Store




Y-3 (fruit of a collaboration between sports brand Adidas and fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto) Opened its first store in UK this past friday, March 10th at the heart of London, 54 Conduit Street.  Event was celebrated by in-store cocktail reception that evening, followed by a party at Paramount Bar on New Oxford Street, where both Yohji Yamamoto and Adida’s creative director Dirk Schönberger were present.

Local Business: The Cloth Shop - Portobello


Sam Harley and Alex Adams have been running The Cloth Shop in West London for 17 years, building a reputation among film producers for costume material and with interior designers for natural furnishing fabrics in plain, striped and check.
The shop is an Aladdin's cave of intriguing fabric and cloth, including antique Swedish rag rugs, Indian silk shawls, cashmere and wool blankets from Scotland and antique Welsh blankets.
